Default idle/rough start

hi have a 96 cobra. i have noticed that the car is idling rough at times and extremely smooth at other times (like its brand new smooth). i have also notice when starting there are time where it starts strong an loud like it should and at other times week sounding, almost like its struggling a little. there doestn appear to be any pattern to the idling or starting problems. so far I have replaced the plugs and wires, and run some fuel injector cleaner though. i also cleaned the idle control motor late last summer (the car is garaged for the winter) because i was having some occasional stalls and read that this was the most comman cause. This did help the stalling issue. the plugs and wires have helped a little bit, but not completely. anyone have any suggestions as what to look for next? There doesnt appear to be any performance issues/lacking of horse power.
any ideas are greatly appreciated.
thanks in advanced

Have tried you cleaning the MAF sensor with some electrical cleaner?

That is another free thing to try before you start spending money...

Sounds like it's time for a new IAC valve.

IAC = idle air controller, right? is that hard to do? any idea of a cost for a replacement?

Yes, this guy is right. When you take off the IAC unit, you'll find a lot of gunk inside of it. Spray carb cleaner in, and fush it with an air gun or something. Then, take a rag, spray down a corners worth and shove it into the hole leading into the upper. You'll see the black crap come out of there. If this doesn't work, replace it, as the spring inside may be shot.
