Default head swap

I have a 96 gt and i just bought a supposedly 01 motor... it's at least a 99 up and the production date was 8-04-00 so i'm guessing an 01. i am really needing to know if i can put the heads off of it onto my motor. i'm talking the heads up, so i'll be using the intake and all. i've heard that it will have a little more compression on my year car than the 99-01's, but thats just something i heard. i figured a head and intake change and a computer out of an 99-01 should work. if anyone has any ideas or input please let me know cuz i have nearly nothing in the heads, so i plan to port and polish them and put them on if it will work. thanks in advance.

yes, the heads will swap over. those are either early 01 or late 00 heads, so you'll be needing the 14 bolt valve covers.

If you don't want to install the engine, let me know what you would take for the shortblock.

why not swap the engine?
+1

That allows you to keep your compression stock, in case you ever want to add a blower.
Thats my plan with my 96.

i bought the engine dirt cheap and it's my daily driver and so far reliable... i'm not sure if the engine runs or smokes or how many miles are on it... it would be much easier to just swap the heads i would think, and if i ever wanted to put a s/c on it, then i will always have my old heads if i use that motor... thought about building the block for a charger...look pretty sweet sittin on an engine stand... thanks for the info

If the engine you bought is high milage you are screwed anyway, cause the valve springs will be worn out and the heads will more than likely have as many problems as the shortblock.

I think you would be better off finding out of the new motor is solid and just swapping engines. If you did add a blower later on, you won't want to try to use the stock NPI heads anyway.
