MOBIL 1 10W-30 with a MOBIL 1 filter. There is a good article in the sticky's at the beginning of the 4.6 forums about oil filters and who makes what and the quality level of each. MOBIL 1 and the K&N topped the list. Why use good oil and a poor filter, which by the way, FRAM filters ranked at the bottom of the list. I know they used to be good but they seem to have deceided to take the approach to compete with the cheaper brands of oil filters and go for selling quanties at $2.39 each instead of fewer at the premium price their quality once reflected. The MOBIL 1 filter cost me $10. but you could feel the difference in weight alone due to the quality housing and insides it uses. It's worth it just like the oil. I am confused about oil weights. I was always of the understanding that the first number was the weight and the second represented qualities the oil exhibited at a certain high temperature.
Does anyone have a link to the descriptions of oils weights and quality designations like SF, SG, etc.? Thanks, Mark

I"m not sure what the letters mean, but I know you want the second letter farthest down the alphabet as possible.

like SF is crap, you want to buy SL or SM...

and lets take 10W30.

The 10 is it's viscosity when cold. The 30 is the viscosity at operating temperature.

With my use only summer I went with the 10-30 due to what the guide on the bottle showed. Then with monkeydude's explaination of the oil weights I have always had it cackwards. I always the lower number was the oil's weight with the higher being some of the charactistics it shared. So my 30 viscosity has a greater resistance to the force trying to make it flow if I paraphrased the dictionaries description of the word coprrectly. Thanks guys! mark

PS, I looked for the sump drain plug on my drain pan but couldnt find 1. I thought they all had 2 plugs you had to drain.
It took full 6 quarts.
