Gear Whine w/ Stock Gears?

Gear Whine w/ Stock Gears?
I am the new owner of a 2002 Mustang GT convertible. I was driving without the radio on the other day and I noticed what appears to be gear whine when I take my foot of the gas. It is most evident around 35-45 MPH or so, and is only heard when the clutch pedal is out (i.e., the car is in gear) and my foot is off the gas. I don't notice the whine when the radio is on, and it doesn't interfere with conversation and such. I was wondering if anyone else with stock gears hears a simliar whine. Or, should I be worried that the whine is signaling some sort of impending failure?
I should also say that I just had the rear pinion seal replaced, and at the same time had the oil replaced. But, I can't say for sure whether or not the whine was there before the pinion seal replacement or not (since I haven't had the car long and usually have the radio on).
Does anyone have any thoughts?
Thanks!

That's probably your transmission. I know my TR3650 is whiny... not too bad, considering the wreck it is otherwise [8D]
If the rear is whining, it'll do it whether or not you're in gear. I know my rear is dead silent, perfect.

RE: Gear Whine w/ Stock Gears?
Ok, so I took the car out for a lunchtime ride, and I'm pretty convinced now that the whine wasn't there before I took the car in to have the rear pinion seal replaced. It's actually very loud between 35-45 MPH (and then drops in volume precipitously) and I'm sure I'd have noticed it. I haven't been able to tell whether it's coming from the front or the back, but it definitely dissapears as soon as I push in the clutch (or touch the gas pedal). I'm going to call the dealership garage and see what they have to say.
Does anyone have any ideas I can throw at them when I talk to them? Could it be a result of the oil they put in? Could a bolt have been over tightened? This is far from my area of expertise, so I'd love to hear any ideas you all might have.
Thanks!
