Default 98 gt tranny swap options

I have a 98 gt auto and am swapping out the non-pi headed motor and aode for a pi-headed motor and a manuel. I'd like to find a used 6 speed that will bolt up to the motor with little problems to save as much as I can for building the engine. are there any other 6 speeds out there other than the ones from 03 or 04 cobras that will work?

your pretty much stuck with a tremec t56, what comes in the cobras. they dont just bolt in, they require some work. but it will bolt right up to the engine tho.

Hey sn98Gt,
Are you buying your PI engine from Ford? I am considering doing the same thing for my 97 Stang. I have 105k miles on my engine and thought about doing the PI-Head and intake swap but I've been reminded of the old saying, if you build up the top end and if the bottom end is not not as strong(worn rings in particular) you are setting yourself up for some troubles soon down the road. It makes sense I guess. I wonder how hard and expensive would it be to order a Mach1 4v engine from Ford???[sm=smiley9.gif] But I guess the 2v would be much easier and cheaper.

actually I'm probly going to get a low milage pi motor from a wrecked car either locally or through mustang parts specialties... I'm also getting my auto to manual swap kit from them... it comes with everything needed for 1,700 including the t-45. its used stuff, but hey its in good working condition, and if it breaks, I'll replace it. this things just my everday driver, so I built it to handle good and be fun to drive, nothing overpowering... I'm saving that for my 66 chevelle

Manual swaps aren't as bad as everyone makes them out to be. It requires alittle cutting of the floor board and some matching interior pieces. The toughest part of the swap is setting up the clutch pedal...I think you could get all the parts alittle cheaper, but hey, it'll be worth it regardless if you pay that much or not!!

Stonemonk9, did your check engine light come on after the head swap or was it already on before. I live in Metro Atlanta and a check engine light is an automatic flunk for emission testing. When my plastic intake goes which I guess it's destin to, I will check out "mustang parts" up in Winder GA and see If I can work a deal with a cobra or mach1 engine...
