Hey guys, great timing, I just bought the gasket this morning to replace on my '96 GT but had a few questions since the Chilton guide says nothing about this fix. Only one I don't see the answer to: Did you have to release the pressure from the fuel system prior to removing the filler neck from the tank? Everyone I know that I've asked has been divided 50/50 so I figured I'd find someone who has replaced theirs already...thanks a lot!

hockey

There is a shrader valve on the fuel loop - like a heavy duty tire valve. If you press it it will release the pressure and probably some gas [X(] since I don't have the gadget to do this the right way I use a lot of rags when I change my fuel filter. I also make sure everything down there is nice a nd cool, have the battery disconnected and keep a fire extinguisher handy

hockey,
I did not realease the pressure. It was pretty easy actually once you get going. Just follow the instructions above, however i also unbolted the filler tube, the 4 8mm bolts on the bottom boot side of the top of the filler tube(right where you filler up) Good luck and hope this helps

Problem solved! Part number: F4ZZ-9072-DA...the rubber gromit thing that secures the fill tube into the tank, it was ripped...all is well now...I was getting tired of 4 mpg for the 1st quarter tank :-)
