Wow, that must suck, having $18K burning a hole in your pocket. I'm a little confused on the "and I need some money left for college" part. Last time I looked, $18K was a down payment on a degree at best. Having any "left" is doubtful. It might pay for an associates at a community college.

Listen, when I graduated HS, my parents offered me either a) 2 years at the commnity college or b) a down payment on a car. Because I was 17 and stupid, I chose a car. However, they got to 'approve' the car. I got a '79 notch with the I4 and an auto.

I finially got my associates in 2002. Today, I'm 40 and scrambling to finish my bachelors. I should have gotten the 2 years of college from mom and dad. I'd have been so much better off.

My point is this: If you must have a car, buy something to get you to school and back with good gas mileage. No, it won't be as 'cool' as the V8 mustang, but it makes more sense. Save your money for school. Get it done now so you don't have to worry about it later in life unless you decide you want to.

yeah... I agree with you guys - put as much into school as you can - it's a SOB to have those guys on your back for money... but we don't know his situation... I know in Fla, they have a setup where the state pays 75% of your tuition, so he might not have to pay back that much? I would look for a Cobra personally. The 4v engines are just unbeatable in the Mustang world unless you do A LOT of work to a 2v. You can find a SN95 Cobra for under 10k actually pretty easily. You can also find a 99/01 Cobra for mid teens (13-18) depending on how beat up they are... Could also find yourself a REAL 93' Cobra. I just love those cars - and they're also under 10k. Again, SN95 Cobra, 99/01 Cobra, or really any good condition fox hatch. You can even find built fox Mustangs for under 10k, run you some 11's and 12's for a car under 10k .. and most are pretty reliable.

Buy a bicycle and use all the money for school. I can't believe there's even a question here.

If you want to try something crazy, put a grand or two on a penny stock: PHEI.OB

If the stock takes off by the time you graduate, you might be able to retire, if not, you'll have a drgree.... get a good carreer, and build the car of your dreams.

I would say to use you money for school,we all love mustangs and I'm sure we've all spent a good portion of that savings account that we weren't gonna touch. All I have to say is thank god the army trained me to be a nurse so I didn't have to pay for school. Think about it the more money you put into school, the more money you make and the better your car gets, the better your car gets the more you get laid. A one time improvement will suck, modding a car is like a virus, you do one thing, it makes you want another thing etc. but when you get everything done alkl at once you get a since of "well what now?" Anyway, with that being said, Call Texas Hot Rods and they will tell you how to spend any EXTRA money you have.

I don't quite understand a lot of these posts talking about "saving money for school." I'm currently enrolled in College and I don't pay ****. I actually get about 2k back every semester or so. I didn't even apply for any scholarships which I actually regret because I would've had more money. As long as you go to a state school and your grades don't suck you shouldn't have to pay anything.

Do what I did man. Be very very patient. Pick up a nice clean GT for really cheap, it'll happen...you just gotta be patient. Either that or pick up a really cheap commuter car and save the rest for college.
