More Stall converter questions.........................
Can someone give me a run down on the stall converter? Pretty much all i know is that it allows you to launch higher and that most people around here seem to reccomend a 3200 stall for my 2002 GT. I want to make sure the car is still streetable etc....anyone with the know how want to educate me?

RE: More Stall converter questions.........................
2500-3200 is usually a good street/strip converter.
The higher the stall speed, the more "loose/unresponsive" the car will feel at part throttle and fuel economy will suffer when not locked up in 4th gear. Of course, your launch can be a lot harder too if you have the tires to handle it.
Stall speed can be related to a manual transmission dropping the clutch from high RPM to get the engine into the powerband right off the launch. It's more complex than that but a good analogy.
A trans cooler would be highly recommended with the additional of any stall converter..heck even with a stock converter!

RE: More Stall converter questions.........................
It depends on how much you are willing to give up on part throttle performance for maximum WOT performance. 2800-3000 must be a good compromise.
Trans coolers are easy to install at the same time as your converter. They vary in price depending on the size. Figure 100.00 or less for the cooler and 1/2 to install at the same time as your converter.

RE: More Stall converter questions.........................
they say stock stall is about 1900-but its tough to load up at the high without slipping the tires-its probably somewhere closer to 15-1600-but remember that the advertised stall wont necessarily stall where it says. Its gonna change according to your respective mods and hp/tq curves. Best way to pick one is set ur stall speed just before (100rpm) where you make peak torque-so if ur making peak torque at 3200-u wanna get a stall advertised roughly at 3000-3100
