Someone actually used a ford explorer in the 2v Shootout.

No, the engines have stupid little design differences everywhere. the heads on the trucks are different from the mustangs. More than most likely they are Windsor heads hence that is where ford truck motors are built. The motors are designed for the specific vehicle, for example, an exploder is heavy and ment to tow, there for, it is spec'd for towing and ment for lower RPM range. they change things like piston shapes, combustion chamber sizes, cam specs (duration, lift, overlap), even stupid stuff like how many bolts holds the cam cover on. In the end. they are very close, but have there differences.
