if you dont know how to fix them or anything about them..dont do it yourself...bc of the fact that backlash...swinging torque **** you need to do perfect....someone with experience should do them..no offense

It sounds as though the traction-lok clutch pack is either bound up on one side or slipping like heck on the other, or a combination of the two. How many miles on it? Did someone change the oil without adding friction modifier?

I don't reccamend trying it yourself. I did wheel bearings and wheel seal myself but even as a young mechanic, i do not know how to set backlash in a mustang diff. i only know how to do so in a semi-diff and it's a pain in the ***. I had my diff case replaced. thats one thing i won't touch...

That could be part of the problem, in any event it sounds like it's time to open up the rear-end and see what can be seen.If you are lucky the t-lok clutches are worn/binding (they're fairly cheap to replace), if the spider gears or side gears are toast then you'll probably need a new or rebuilt carrier assembly, plus bearings, plus seals--might be better off getting a whole axle from a bone-yard...
