Default 1996 mustan gt help

ok so im looking at getting a 1996 mustang gt with 51k miles and nothing done to it at all. It has a crappy slush box unfortunetly though. Ok if i get it I want to do a cold air intake, long tubes, no cats and a single chamber muffler and 4.10s and a aluminum driveshaft. I have been looking at some companies like steeda and ford performance so far i see pretty much what I want. Im new to the 4.6 because ive only had 5.0s both 91s im 16 and need fairly cheep parts but parts that will last a long time. I have also not been able to find some of the common problems with the 1996 if someone could explain to me what some common problems are and some of the better things about the 1996. That would be awsome.
Thanks,
Luke

Hmm unfortunately 96-98 are dissappointing years. Going from a 5.0 your gonna be let down. Id say ditch the 96 and look for a 94-95.

For one the factory plastic intake will eventually crack around the water neck, so I'd get a new intake preferably a 99+ intake with the aluminum crossover.

ok what exactly is the cross over i know with the 5.0s you just pop the air intake in and thats it but i noticed with the one im looking at there is a really small intake it goes into and there is some bar going to it from a different part of the engine no idea what it is though.

your 16 and have already had two 5.0s????? hmmm

if you do actually go with the 96, first priority would probably be a PI-swap (newer intake/heads/cams used on 99+ GT's)....i think a PI swap in a 96 actually gives you more rwhp than a 99+ has stock too.....

other mods, CAI does nothing for your car...buy a K+N filter, remove the air silencer (theres a sticky about it in the how-to section i think) and call it a day.....exhaust is a matter of taste but long tubes/no cats = not passing emissions....aluminum driveshaft in terms of weight reduction isnt going to anything for your stock car until you do some seriously heavy modding and weight reduction and lastly 4:10 gears....HEELLLLLLS yeah go with 4:10s....you'll love em.......

The crossover is underneath the plug wires that cross the front of the motor, the place the plastic ones usually crack at is right where the radiator hose clamps to.

right after i buy the car I wouldnt leave the parkin spot without hookin up the kn airfilter I hate airboxes almost convinced my mom to let me take the one of the minivan lol. Yea the first one was totalled (not my fault)it has a 91 5spd with cai, throttle body spacer, flowmasters, aluminum driveshaft and 3.73 loved em! the one I have right now has mods that are in my sig. But yea i have unwillingly gone through 2 of them. Yea with the pi swap is a little expensive right now need to get it payed of first thats why i just want to get those mods wont cost too much and I can do them myself. I live in florida so I dont have to worry about emissions the car I have right now has no cats and no smog pump when I floor it it leaves a green cloud behind me lol and it smells to. My youth pastor has a 2002 it think with some mods his wife drives it mostly and the want more speed and I keep tellin em to get gears but they wont listen, to bad for them. O and with these mods do you think I could beat a 1989 ford supercoupe (3.8 sc with exhaust)?? it is also auto to.

well i dont know much about 5.0's.....but when it comes to our modular engines, if youre worried about money, long tubes arent really a great idea.....a good set of those can run 600+ bucks which means gettin a new midpipe to fit (prob another 200) and unless you do the install yourself, you're looking at paying someone 10ish hours of labor to SQUEEEEZE the longtubes in

and again, with the aluminum driveshaft, i dont see any purpose on throwing it on an otherwise stock 4.6.....maybe on a 5.0 it coulda been worth someting....but until you heavily mod, i'm pretty sure it isnt worth it......

*shrug* just my two cents
