Default Stock Intake Mod.. Good idea or no?

Ok so im really bored and im about to buy a new intake... untill then im just looking for stuff to do to keep me busy.

Heres my idea on moding the stock intake:

Cut most of that plastic shield off so that it resembles an aftermarket intake.

Is that a good idea? I have a K&N filter already, and was just figuring that maby with that shield cut back it would help out a lil, or at least sound cooler from more air getting sucked in. What do you guys think?

Have you taken the snorkel out? That's about the best you're gonna get I'd think. I don't remember how big the hole in the stock intake box is but I can't imagine the difference between the box, a modded box, and no box is a huge difference.

I cut the shield off because I got bored one day also. Gas milage stayed the same, 1/4 mile time stayed the same even with the headlight removed and my filter gets wet somtimes. So IMO, leave it alone and vaccum the inside of your car .

If you pull the snorkel there arn't many/any gains to be had left. I would put money on it that a pulled snorkel/K&N setup is just as good as almost any CAI/RAI on a boltons only car.

The sound differences comes when the snorkel comes out, because that's actually called an air silencer. But honestly, I don't know if you're trying to get a whistle from the intake or better exhaust tone from more air, but it's going to be something that you don't even notice after a while. To me it's kind of one of those "whoopdie doo" sounds. Plus, with my exhaust I sure as hell can't hear it now.

Definitely, unless you have some extra need for air, the stock intake gets plenty for our 2Vs.
