Default swapping auto for 5 speed a good idea?

Hey everyone i really have a problem! I actaully recieved my car for free from my brother and i do love it cause it my first car but it's an auto and i have to have a manual. So i made some calls and a guy said that he can put a 5 speed in it with all the parts and labor for $1500. Is this a good deal? But i do want a cobra but i don't know if i should save up for that or not. Cause i beat my car a good bit and the auto whines in first gear and it's starting to slip when floored. So what should i do?

Sell your car and buy a cobra if thats what you want. It does sound way to good to be true. Make sure what that includes. Thats prolly just the labor!

1500 sounds about right for used parts. The guy probably got the tranny and pedals and such at a junk yard somewhere. If he's telling the truth then I say go for it. It's a good deal as long as the tranny isn't junk.

He said he will use used parts that he knows that is good. And if i have any problems to bring it back and he'll fix it for free. He also said if i take it to a track and beat the hell out of it he will not fix it. The guy has been doing this stuff foe 20 years now and does it out of his really nice house. He has about 30 mustangs out fornt of his house and he takes parts out of them and sells them. So what should I do?? Oh yea it's 1500 for parts and labor out of another GT mustang!

I would get that in writing. 1500.00 sounds really cheap for parts and labor.

That sounds about right. My car goes in two weeks from now to get the same thing done. I will be getting a King Cobra clutch, short throw shifter (didn't specify brand), a 3650 tranny out of a Mach 1 w/roughly 1200 mi on it that has a bad 3rd gear synchro which he is fixing. He said he is going through the entire tranny to make sure its in good shape. All this with pedals, etc, etc, and tax will be $1700.00 bucks. Man I can't wait

Just my opinion but I would rather just do a stall/shift kit and cooler and the spend the rest on other mods.

I understand an auto takes aways some of the fun but it does provide you with consistancy. 2000GT4.6 makes a lot of sense, why not upgrade your tranny wiht a shift kit, cooler and stall and then spend the rest of your money on mods.
Anyway, it is your money and your car, good luck.
