We just got done putting a fresh rebuilt motor in my 02. Everything is all fine and dandy until 4 days later and it starts to tap. It only taps when you start it and hit 3K rpms and sometimes I have to turn it over twice to start. We change the oil and the mechanics notice a lil silver coloration to it but they say that looks normal for breaking in a new motor. Then they suggest the flywheel maybe loose. I ask my cousin if he torqued it down and he said no he tightened tigth but not torqued. Could this be the problem?

So, it only taps when you very first start it and then it quites right? Can you get a short vid of it making this noise? If it makes like a rattling noise for just a few seconds upon startup then it's probably the main bearings.

I had the main bearings go out in my truck. When I started it after it had been sitting for several hours it would rattle for a few seconds kinda like all the rods were knocking then completely quite. If I shut it off for a little while and started it back up it didn't do it. I had to let it sit for several hours before it would do it again. It progressivly got worse and worse until it was knocking all the time. I hope that's not what's wrong with yours but I'd need a vid to get a better idea.
