Default warped heads

Need a little help. I'm new to the 4.6 sohv engine. Bought a 1996 GT conv from a impound lot cheap but startedhaving trouble withcooling here in Texas. Replaced intake manifold, cracked no thermostat, water pump leaking, and rad with after market and larger. Now I have a head gasket leaking. Question On the 4.6 engine have a history of the alum. heads warping. With100.000 mile. would it be cheaper to go with another engine or gamble and pull this engine down. What the differnts between a 4.6 W and a 4.6 X and will they inter change.

If you are doing the work yourself, I would suggest getting a set of PI heads, cams, and intake manifold. You will get new heads to fix your problem and you will gain about 50rwhp. The PI heads are the stock heads off of a 99-04 Mustang. They flow better and have a smaller combustion chamber. But It could be just your headgasket that needs replacing. You can also find used GT motors for fairly cheap, ebay, scrapyard, anywhere. If maintained right the 4.6 will last a hell of a lot longer than 100,000 miles. Im on 137,000 right now, and she ran great and used no oil, until i screwed it up [:@], but thats a different story. Sorry to hear about your trouble man, and goodluck.

And I guess by 4.6 W and X you mean windsor and romeo, any head will fit your block just the valve covers will be different.

Yeah, Id just replace the heads, and if you want do the PI swap. You can do it all with the engine in the car. As stated above, for a PI swap you can use either PI romeo or windsor heads itdoesn't matter which.
