Default 2000 GT questions

First a bit of history... I've owned a couple late model Mustangs in the past. A 93 Cobra and then a 94 Cobra Convertible Indy Pace Car. Both of these sat in the garage 99.999% of the time and were rarely driven. I sold the 93 to buy the 94, which I had for about 7 years and then sold it because it was just taking up space. For the most part, I haven't paid attention to the Mustang world for a while, so I'll be the first to admit I don't have much of a clue when it comes to Stangs produced since 1994.

I always said if I bought another Mustang that it would be a GT w/auto and that it would be a driver. Not an everyday driver, but not a show car either. Just a nice car that we can hop in and take off for the weekend.

I have the itch for a convertible and have been looking around for a low mileage late model Mustang and found one that grabbed my attention. It's a one owner 2000 GT convertible, automatic with all available factory options (Mach 460, traction control, etc). This car is bone stock and only has around 8,700 miles (yes, 8,700). It is "sunset gold" with a black top and black leather interior. Other than a couple very small paint ships the car is mint. I believe the car can be purchased for around $15,000 (maybe less).

Are there any issues with the 2000 model year that I need to be aware of? How about the "sunset gold" paint... any issues? What about the price... is that a decent deal for this car? Any other tips or suggestions are appreciated.

First off, welcome to the forums!

I bought my 2000 GT Convertible AUTO last summer and I have had no problems with it. It runs like a champ and it's my first mustang and first convertible and I LOVE IT!!! I'm in the same boat with you, I don't drive it everyday, it's more like a going out car for me to have fun and stuff. The price you mentioned sounds just about what dealerships are selling them for here in CT so try to bring it down 1500 if you can. Good luck man.

I got a 2000 GT, but manual, that i put about 12K on in a year as my daily driver. Supposedly the auto is not so reliable...though i can only say that from posts on here, i don't knwo anyone who drives an auto. I can tell you that it is the most reliable car i have ever owned though. Had it about 16 months(not too long of a period) and zero problems. My only complaint is this coil on plug BS. It's not a problem...i just don't like the idea that i can't change my spark plugs and wires myself.

My last mustang was a 2000 auto and it ran great. I sold to a buddy I work with and he said it still runs good, no problems. When I bought it it had 32,000 miles on it and I got it for $12,000 so I think you would be getting a good deal cause it's a convertible.

With only 8700 miles on it, that would be a great deal. I personally like the gold color, but then again, it's all preference. I know in Ut you wouldn't be able to purchase that car for a better price than 15,000. Good luck with the car!

Another question... as I recall my 93 and 94 had tamper resistant labels on the fenders, hood, trunk lid, doors, etc with the VIN. I didn't see any such identification on any of the panels on the 2000 model that I was looking at. Did the 2000 models have these VIN labels from the factory?

Thanks everyone for the info. We're leaving tomorrow morning to go and pick up the car. Now the fun begins [sm=bounceybounce.gif]

How do you think these wheels would look an a gold convertible?
