Default shortblock

what is a shortblock and why does one need tobe concerned with this when talking about s/c


also i have a 2000 gt,,, someone metionedsomething bout this 4.6 being forged ,, what does that mean

A shortblock is the block with the rotating assembly installed.(crank,rods, pistons).If you are going to have over 425rwhp you want to start thinking about forging your rotating assembly.GT's dont have forged engines stock.Forging is just the way the metal is cast which makes it stronger.

yea, kids with NA usually don't have to worry about forged anything. FI is a different bag of fun.

NA= Naturally Asparated.
FI= Forced injection

FI is Forced induction, in which air is compressed and forced into the engine by turbo or super charger.

Forged steel (or whatever kind of metal) is stronger than stock or cast parts. So if you want to go FI, you will make alot of power. You stock shortblock can't hold it, so you need forged internals

Shortblock, is basically your engine minus the heads, intake, and cams.
Longblock, is the whole engine.
