Default dohc or not ???????

I have a 96 GT4.6 cov. How do i tell if i have dohc or not? what would be the difference as far as HP which would i be able to get more out of? Am i better off with the dohc??????? I have never thought about it till i went to change my oil for the secound time i had to add more then 5 quarts to get it to the full level and while talking to sales person at the parts stores he explained that i might have dohc which blew my mind i have never thought about it. Not to sound stupid i just got the car and I am tring to learn as much as possible, i am hoping that i am better off with dohc.

Thanks Tony[/align]

Unless a previous owner swapped in a dohc. Easy way to tell is valve cover width. Dohc valve covers are wider. Just look for a pic of an sohc (single overhead cam) valve cover and compare it to a pic of a dohc (dual overhead cam) valve cover. You will quickly see the difference.

thats hands down a normal 4.6 2v motor.

the cobra motors have silverish valve covers, are twice as wide, usually have 32v on a plaque on the valve cover(s), etc...

btw how much oil did you put in? overfilling your oil is not a good thing.

^thats odd nitelife, but those are definitely 2v pics above. the engine bays alonebetween a 2v and 4v are alot different.
