Default RE: tranny rebuild, 6 speed?

Absolutely none unless you are road racing and/or enjoy shifting. Our cars have pretty broad usable torque curves, so for normal use or even drag racing the 5-speed is quite up to the task.A6-speed T-56 (parts only; tranny, bellhousing, driveshaft, etc.) will cost $2800 to $3200 by the time it's in the car.A 5-speed TKO-500 will cost $2100 to $2500; again, just the parts. You can probably get a rebuilt T-45 for less than $1000, or get one from a junkyard for less than 1/2 that.Twas me needing a tranny I'd go for a TKO-600 p/nTCET5008. Here in Florida, with a 3.73 rear-end, the 3.37 1st gear ratio is really too low, I can launch hard in second and be nearly as fast as launching in 1st. The TCET5008 has a 2.87 1st gear, and then goes 1.89, 1.28, 1.00, and 0.64 in 5th; that would be neat...
