Optima Battery on an 03gt
#11
Optima was one of the first to make a AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery, and it was definitely superior to the plain or cork/lead/bakelite things that were common back then. The AGM technology gave them and edge despite the inefficient use of space the odd design imposed. Problem was that like many innovative products that start at the pinnacle of their design potential there was not much room for improvement and it Optima just a high value name brand.
Johnson Controls took it over some years back and has been sucking whatever life the name has left since then--and in the meantime other battery manufacturers improved their act to where any $75 to $100 battery is at least as good as and probably better than an Optima.

ive had a red top for a long time now and i've had no problems with it. The only reason i've got that one is cause i get them for free.99 from work but it really doesn't matter what kind of a battery you have unless you're pulling a lot of load from your stereo.

Well after all this discussion I think you just turned me off of Optima too. I need a new battery and I have a pretty high wattage stereo running. So I think Ill just get a good heavy duty battery instead.

I've had it for a year and a half and it's been perfect even after sitting all last winter inside the car, even when I'd go weeks without starting it. We'll see how it holds up after this winter. I just put the battery on the rear deck were my stock amps used to be and just did a bunch of wiring. I hope it's all well. If not then I'm going to get one of those "Tiny dry cell batteries".
