P0113 PO102.....WTF
Ok so on my last few tanks of gas i've noticed i'm getting 20.xx to 21.xx MPGs. I normally get 23.xx and 24.xx on my typical work week(75% highway cruising 25% city driving). So I decided to do some routine maintenance yesterday to see if I could recover my MPGs. Well a few weeks ago I unfortunately had to drive through a deep puddle of water/mud around a construction zone which splashed mud and water onto my clean engine. Clearly this mud and water got up in my air filter because it was FILTHY and I had just cleaned it.
So I decided from there to touch up the MAF with a Q-tip + Alcohol. Both the sensors I could reach of course. I then went from there and cleaned up the dirty *** throttle body. All was done after a few hours and I put everything back together, oiled the air filter and let it dry, then put it in. Started it up yesterday evening and the only thing I noticed odd was that it started idling at 1500 RPMS, it.....slowly worked its way down to 1000 RPMS where I decided to put it in drive. I just chalked this up to disconnecting the TPS and its getting its idle back down because of that. It ran great, no problems.......put it through a couple WOTs and it pulled like a beast of course.
Started it up this morning.....same thing.....it stalls out at 1500 and slowly stumbles its way down to 1000 RPMS so I just put it in drive and backed out. By the time I hit the bottom of the driveway BOOM check engine light. I stopped, pulled the code and description and was like **** I ruined the MAF. Nope, turns out the DAMN THING WAS UNPLUGGED.
So my WTF question comes in here.....the only difference in drivability was that the idle started off at 1500 instead of 1000 when cold....and that the idle stumbled quite a bit. Once I got driving, it was perfectly fine, I even stomped it quite a few times and it pulled absolutely fine. How the hell can the engine run great aside from a high/stumbled idle with something like the MAF unplugged? KAM memory? I would think something so crucial would present much more drivability issues.
