My dad is upgrading the brake system on his 1940 ford, he wants to run the cobra calipers, but would like to run the gt rotors so he doesn't have to run 17 in wheels. There used to be a kit available to do this from ECI, but we're unable to find it. So, I guess we will just have to make our own. We just wanted to make sure you could run the gt front rotors with the cobra front calipers.
gt and cobra calipers are both 2 piston calipers made by pbr the cobra caliper just allows the use of a 13" rotor if i understand correctly... so you should go with the basic gt caliper if your looking to clear small wheels
Even though the 99-04 calipers are all 2 piston, the extra sweeping space on the front of the 13" rotor significantly decreases stopping distance...
I know how well they stop. I put cobra brakes on my car, it stops so much better than the old front disc and rear drum setup. The kit he saw several years ago used the cobra/corvette pbr 2 piston calipers with 11.25 in rotors. That's what were trying to locate, but if we have to make our own, I'm just trying to see what we can use and can't use.
Anything is better then the 1940 brakes that are on the car. We have a 9 in ford rearend to swap with the old banjo rearend in the car, he's not sure what setup he wants to put on the rear though.
