Wheel Spacers......Looks!.......Performance?
Need a little help here, got a 98 GT, will get a pic soon, and I want to enhance the looks of the wheel stants coming out more on the fender. I have heard they are not recammended for high horsepower applications which will soon be a concern for me next year if all go's to plan. Can you get stronger spacers, what size do you recammend? 1, 1.25, 1.5, 2inches, etc. This is a big concern to me bc not only does the looks of my car appeal me, but performance is one of my main concerns. Oh ya, does ride, cornering, etc effected from the wheel spacers? You guys have all been great so far and juat wanted to let you know that your help doesn't go unnoticed as I try to do my best for you guys too, thanks

Its not the spacers you have to worry about. Its the axle studs breaking. If you call LRS, they will send you some hardened studs so that you can run spacers. You will need 1/2" thread by 3" long and the knurl is going to be .615. They will hang out of the rim a little but you can get the longer lugs to make it look better.
I have a 3/8 spacer on each rim in the rear to keep the 335's from rubbing the IRS. The tires come out about flush with the wheel well. I dont have any pics but I will try to send you some soon.
The ride isnt effected at all. I have three friends that have '03 Cobra's and the ride is the same as mine.

Maximum Motorsports has some spacers that they say doesnt add stress to the axle studs. They bolt up differently than others do. Pretty damn expensive for wheel spacers though. Thats what I'm going to use to run some skinnies with the big a$$ brakes on this thing.

Right, Maximum Motor Sports have the best spacers for the buck. Check out this link:

From the looks of it, the Bolt-on's in that website looks as though they are for 1" and up. Anything below 1" is just gonna slide onto your stock studs. The tires will be WAY outside the wheel well with a 1" spacer on my car. I have 3/8 spacers on mine and they are flush with the wheel flare, but thats with 315's and 335's on the back.

I spoke to the guys at MMS and they told me up 1/2" is fine with the original studs. Over that and you have to either buy longer studs or the spacers with the inserted studs. That's from the horse's mouth.
