I'm going to put in a 04 cobra motor, this winter in my mustang. To save some money for mods, should I find a totaled 03 or 04 cobra? Is it a good idea to buy a used motor or should I just buy a new motor from ford? Is there a web site I can find totaled cobra's on?

Thanks, Mike
You do realise for less money and hassle you can make your 2v perform just as well right?? You are looking at at least 10K with the computer and everything (maybe more), and 10K would build one hell of a sweet 2v modular. I see later you on said you will not be keeping the stock blower, so you might as well add another 5K or so to that total.

Forged internals (aftermarket ones better than the ones in the 4v, and lets you stroke to a 302), ported heads, cams, P-51 intake manifold, and a whole lot of boost would make more power than a stock unported 4v.

Basically you are talking:

Forged internals: 2000
P-51 intake: 1200
Cams 550
Springs 200
Heads (new) 1300

Total is only 5250 dollars. You still have plenty left over for a supercharger and any supporting mods you don't already have (looks like you have a nice list going), and if you take into account that you are going to buy a new blower for the 4V anyway, you still have enough coin to get a set of really nice twin turbos.

TT built 2V > Blown unbuilt 4V.

Plus it is lighter, and you don't have to deal with swapping out the harness and computer.
TT built 4V > TT built 2V

What is everybody saying TT for. I now the TT will give me more hp, but they are harder to deal with. I've had so much truble with my car, so I hope with this swop I do not. I have not hard bad things about the cobra motor with the whipple s/c puttung out 16psi. I know it could be cheeper to built up my motor, but I'm not looking for 700hp and 10mpg on gas with the TT.

A TT is not going to give you any worse gas milage than a supercharger, in fact I can almost guarentee you with all of that "MASSIVE LOW END TORQUE" of the twin screw types a TT is going to give you BETTER gas milage. The turbos will not be spooling up (and thus forcing you to dump craptons of fuel) until 4000 or so RPM. The blower is going to be huffing constantly, and it runs off the engine, not the "free" power of the exaust.

A TT 2v engine that is properly set up will be every bit as reliable as a stock 4V with a blower. Aftermarket pistons/crank/connecting rods are much stronger than the stock 4v forged stuff, and so is the rest of the engine.

Also, you can set up a TT system to be changable on the fly. Imagine having a 400 RWHP daily driver, until you flip a swith and set it on 650+ RWHP. That is the true advantage of a turbo, espcially if you are someone that has craptons of money to throw around (and it sounds like you are).

Put it this way. I saw a guy with a 97 cobra tuning his engine on a dyno at the local shop. The car was making 800 RWHP when he came in. When he left, it was making 400 RWHP. All he had to do to go back to 800 RWHP was press a few buttons on his laptop, and adjust his fuel pressure regulator under the engine bay. If he had new technology under there (he was running older style ems stuff) all you would have to do is touch a button on a little screen in the cab of the car. Think about that

BTW, yes a built 4v would be better than a built 2v, but I don't think he wants to spend 12K on the first set of parts just to spend another 6-7 making it better. And 4v parts are MUCH more expensive.

I know there is alot of KB drooling going on on this board (people here seem to masterbate nightly to twin screw blowers) but a TT is much better. And all of the "its hard to tune etc etc" is nothing but a bunch of ****. Whats hard to tune??? You set the boost, and then you tune the engine, just like a blower car. The only difference is how the air gets there.

Wow that was a long post.

Umm dude. Just buy a cobra. It will be cheaper (with a trade in) and you can still get your whipple. The cobra also has many more mods like brakes, seats, suspension, tranny, etc. It will be worth it to do it that way. Thats the way I would do it.

Thanks for the info. I know all about the boost controlers. My STI puts out 14.5psi stock, but with the controler it makes 19psi Got to love the turbo. I just do not want two turbo cars, that's all.

blueangelfightr;
I have a big brake kit. Better then the Cobra brakes. I have the Airride suspension. I have the the 6 speed trany already, but thanks. I do think about buying a Cobra buy with the new motor and a paint job, there is nothing left to do on the car. That's what I'm looking to do, to be finished

I'm a sistint Engineer

There are 3 thinks I do, so I can have cars like this.

1. I only spend my money on rent, food and gas.

2. I do not buy games, CD or go to clubs, maybe once a month I go to a club.

3. No girl friend, that saves me a lot.

I spend all my money on my cars.
