Default Please help identify noise

I have had my car up on jack stands for 3 weeks to install some new motor and trans mount, new mid pipe and catback. I also installed new plugs and cops.

From above the car it not so noticable, but more so than it appears in the video.

From below it is much louder and is also very noticable in the video.

Now I can not be sure it wasn't there before i did all this, but on the other hand I have a hard time imagining not having heard this before. The engine is an mmr 900 engine with under a 1000 miles on it.

When i put my hand on the oil pan I can feel the knock and it is more in the middle than on the sides.

mmr 900 longblock?
dunno what you ordered with it, but MMR states on their shortblock "instructions" that tapping is possible on a cold motor until it has warmed up. however i assumed this noise would be coming from the top, not the bottom. seems to be pretty rapid too.

i'd say break out the screwdriver/stethoscope and start trying to narrow down the locations.

i'd also get in contact with MMR now, so if you need to claim your warranty you can.

Yep, mmr 900 stroker longblock with mmr oil pump. The noise seem to come form the oil pan area and I can actually feel the knock when i put my hand on the oil pan.

hmmm. did you buy their windage tray? i dont really know what the 900 comes with and i'm too lazy to look it up. are you running dino oil like they recommend? my shortblock instructions stated to stick with conventional for the first 3000 miles i think, then switch to synthetic.

have you let your car warm up and see if the noise goes away?

No, I run without a windage tray like stock. And yes i run 5W-30 mineral oil. I am pretty sure the noise haven't been there from the beginning so it isn't the pistons knocking against the walls, but i haven't let it warm completely up. A little afraid ill just do more damage.

what about dropping the oil pan and spinning the motor either by hand or by rigging up the starter (or just pulling the fuel pump relay/removing spark plugs)

also, call MMR, send them the videos. see if they can help to diagnose.

Yeah, I think i'm gonna contact MMR before I do anything more, but removing the oil pan would probably be next step.
