For some of us it's worth it. The sound and torque are incredible. The question is whether you can get an intake manifold that will still allow a somewhat normal hood.

Depends. You can't just ask if it's worth it. What numbers are you shooting for? Do you want to stay N/A or add forced induction? Clearance will be a major issue. And if your not looking for numbers too high then it's not worth the time, money, and effort. You really need to tell us why you want the 5.4 and we can tell you better if it's worth it for you or not.

SVT did it with the most powerful N/A mustang ever. the 2000 cobra R and they created a bad *** hood that fits over the big *** intake manifold that they put on it

The link below describes one person's conversion. If he had chosen lower compression pistons and put on a turbo kit, it would be one scary modular mustang with a nice lightweight alluminum alloy block. The 4.6 blocks out there that can handle this kind of power are usually much heavier (non-aluminum).
One quote I like:
"If anyone has doubts about Fords intentions you should look at this block. It looks like it was built for 2000 hp."
