I only do it when I see a bunch of chicks in a vert stopped at a light, or a ricebag just sitting at the light, so he can hear me coming before he sees me. I actually found myself downshift into 1st once at a ricer civic. It just sounds WAYY too sweet with the IAC mod and flows. I love doin it, but it gobbles gas. Not worried about my clutch though, it's aftermarket.

I do it but I make sure I give it a small rev befoer I let out the clutch so that way downshifting is much smoother.

yes this is the RIGHT way to downshift. it saves you clutch. im really good at this now i know where to rev it to for the gear im downshifting into. it makes the clutch work less because it doesnt have to grab and start turning the motor again. in other words you gotta synchranize your motor and your drivetrain speed. plus you get a nice gargle when downshifting. i love it. and i need to break the habbit also to save gas. but i hate break dust

I agree with you and those gears and clutch should last alot longer then keep replacing the breaks. I've always downshifted in all my cars and as far as the gas goes, your going to use it anyways[8D]

I thought reving before was the whole part of downshifting? I guess that was never addressed...lol.

For the record, I can't downshift without matching revs. It's just a habit now.

If you're not matching the revs when you downshift, you're simply not doing it correctly and you're goign to wear out your synchros really quickly. That's what double clutching is all about.

What do some of you do? Force it into a lower gear and with the engine idling just drop the clutch? Yikes! [sm=insomnia.gif]

its not really double clutching as far as im concerned...double clutching was for the old truckers with rough syncros...theres no need to use the clutch twice with out cars...clutch in, rev and shift into the right gear, clutch out....

I know my dad used to have to double clutch in his truck because of this. It was just how the drivetrain was designed to be used I guess.

Do any of you guys here actually double clutch in your stangs? Honestly, why in the hell would you do that? To me, its very awkward and takes much longer to do. Like a few have said, our syncros are matched well and no need for double clutching at all. For me, I have always downshifted my cars. I don't daily drive the cobra so I'm not worried about saving gas in it. I rev match my gears each and everytime. Just really smooths it out and isnt too hard on my drivetrain. I too am guilty for doing it cuz it sounds cool

No, you don't have to double clutch and yesm it'll usually sychronize just fine without. If you do it, the synchros will last much longer though.

Each time you don't match the engine and gearbox speed (not just the engine to wheel speed), you're using the synchros to spin up the gearbox to match the engine speed. Yes it works, but yes it will obviously wear them much faster.
