get better tires and practice, practice, practice. I understand your buddy had a hard time also, but he's new that that car as well.

+1
Everyone starts out somehow. I'll tell you an embaressing moment. I've been racing for years, just never had a rear wheel drive car (my bike didn't count). Since my car is an auto, one of the first time's out, I was doing a brake torque, I eneded up spining the wheels at the light, pretty funny ****... Now, I watch my rpm's just incase

yeah when i hit second i did spin... not justa chirp but actually spinning for like 2 sec. and then it would actually catch... about launching i know i need to feather the clutch but like i said im not that great of a driver yet... so i tried launching at like 1800 instead of 2500 and the car pretty much bogged down... so should i leave at the same rpms and just learn to feather the clutch?

The dragstrip is simply ALL about the launch. A car with a stout launch can literally be a hundred horsepower down on a car that cannot launch and still win the race... its all about the first 60'.
yeah... i didnt think that it would make a half second diff. though... i figured something was wrong with my car... like it wasn't running the way it should... cause im new to the whole mustang thing... all my life my dad had me into chevy's a.k.a. camaros n vettes... so i fig. it was the plugs n wires... but come to find out i have no wires... lol so i might just change my plugs...
There is nothing wrong with your car, your 60' (launch) is simply horrible.
I go from a 12.40 running a 1.9 60' time to a12.80 or higher with a 2.1 60' time man. The 60' makes a gigantic difference in your run.
The general rule (old strip rule) is that every .1 seconds on your 60' equals .2 seconds on your 1/4 mile time. If you went from a 2.4x to a 2.0x you would go from your 15.0 to a 14.2... well within stock times for a 99-04 GT with a stock PI 2v.
i can't say it enough, the strip is just ALL about the launch. Without it, you get ****ty times, no matter how much power your making. In a bolton only/stock car the launch is all you have, if you want better times nothing else is going to fix it but a better launch.
Get yourself some nitto drag radials (maybe even on a set of used 15 or 16 inch rims from a V6 mustang) and try it again, you will be surprised by the results. if you shift a little better and get a 2.0 60' I can see you going 14.0s or at least low low 14s.
