how tall are my tires?

i need to know to calculate my actual effective gear ratio. in the rear in running 275/40/17. im thinking they're 26' tall?

They're around 26". Those tires are the same as stock height.

25.7" same as stock providing you still have good tread left.

Stock is 245/45/17.

The 275/40/17 is the same height though. The only difference is in the width. They are 30mm wider.

275x0.40 = 110 section height
110 x 2 = 220 two sections in the diameter
220 / 25.4 = 8.66 inches
8.66+17(rim diameter) = 25.66 inches total diameter

the 275 is the width in mm, the 40 is the section height, which is shown as a percent of the width.
