4.10 VS. 3.73 Gears
How is the MPG shake-up???
Then for a DD would one need a new differential? Bcuz I aint tryn' to build a race car... just a fun car

The choice of 3.73 vs 4.10s is a personal choice. 4.10s will build up your rpms faster getting you to peak power faster. You will also have to shift a whole lot more. I've seen some advocates of 4.10s recommend taking off in 2nd if you're not racing. I've also read comments from a few who have taken out 4.10s because of this. The majority who have 4.10s seem to like them though.
You will see a difference with 3.73s. The difference between 3.27s and 3.73 is 14%. The difference between 3.31s and 3.73s is 12.7%. Pretty close so you will definitely feel a difference.
I have heard that gas mileage in town is unaffected because you just drive in the next higher gear. I know for a fact that highway mileage goes down. Driving the same route my gas mileage went from 22 mpg to 20 mpg when I had 3.73s installed.

my 04 gt with H/C/I & 4:10's gets the same damn highway gas mileage as my bone stock 04 2wd v6 ranger(aint that some ****)....and for what your after("fun car") , there would be no need to replace the diff....it would be a good idea to get the install kit and replace your pinion & carrier bearings when/if you do the gears

hmm, someone who knows more can offer an better explanation but from what I've been told 4.10 are still the way to go. Because aren't you still looking mpg with the 3.73???
