high mileage with a supercharger.

high mileage with a supercharger.
ok, so i rolled over 100k a few days ago, and some of my friends are telling me i will blow my motor with a vortech at 350 hp. I was under the impression that i could run 7 lbs of boost safely on my car. any thoughts, or is there anyone with a high mileage car and a blower?? would getting some heads, cams, and headers be a better choice for now?? i know its less power, but im not ready to build my block up yet.

you will more than likely be fine, just get a leakdown test to make sure its not buring oil and the rings are good, if its ok then you should be fine for a while, obviously it will blow eventually, but with good tuning it shouldlast a few years

Shouldn't be an issue. Not sure why people think 100K is high mileage on these motors, think about it for a second, the 4.6L went into crown vics... The number 1 choice for taxi's and police cars.... Get the blower, be happy.

yeah, i was reading some stuff someone posted on here saying "if you jump into a taxi in NY city, and its an old 4.6, chances are there is 500k+ on the clock" after reading that i was like WOW this is true... its also true with the crown vics, they often retire them at 300k and the CONTINUE to run after that. But remember, they only last that long if they were meticulously maintained. The taxis are maintained very well because they are run by companies, so they get there fluids changed all the time, and everything that breaks gets replaced asap.
do you know the service record of your car?

I have over 100k on my car (96 GT) and have a procharger thats pushing atleats 10#s of boost. You will be fine. But if I were you I would get an intercooled kit and have it tuned as soon as you get the S.C.. Don't run an untuned supercharger car cause your a/f ratios will lean out very quick when you get on the gas, untuned. Also, i'm pushing 330rwhp on a non p.i. motor. It was tuned but not the best cause with Prochargers you need a blow-through MAF and not the stock style of a draw-through. And for it 2 be ok the tune place had to back down my timming to compensate for my draw-through MAF pegging out at around 4k rpms. So point being when I have it re-tuned here soon with my new blow-through MAF and timming advanced I will be pushing even more to the wheels. So again you will be fine. Hope this helps seeing as you didn't have any examples.

oh and I forgot to mention, 96-04 stock bottom ends are supposed to be able to handle 425-450 hp. I'm not sure if that is to the wheels or engine. Pretty sure thats to the engine cause it'd be in the 500 somes to the engine if it were rwhp. But Pushing it close to these numbers are making your engine a ticking time bomb. The better tunning the safer it ill be when pushing. Personally it doesn't bother me cause i'm gonna go as far as I can till I have to buy/build a forged bottom end so I can get heads and cams.

When I did the pi headswap I used a 100k mile shortblock so I could still drive my car till it was done, a few months after that I put the procharger on with 8psi intercooled and its been goin strong for about 3 years now with no major issues. As long as the motor is in good running condition it shouldn't be a problem at 100k and a blower, with a proper tune.
