You should hear a leak at idle though, not just under load. I call it detonation. I know the sound well...if you put a good amount of load on it, especially with the a/c on because that adds even more load, it makes a real loud, bright metal to metal tick noise...am I correct? I need to get my car retuned and check out my spark plugs by order of Cliff because my plugs probably need changed and I need more fuel added into my tune.

Just throwing that out there because I know the feeling. Whenever that sound isnt there, which is hardly ever, my car runs AWESOME! But when it comes back it doesnt feel as peppy. Thats just what made me think that we have the same issue.

If it pulls just as hard even with the tick, which I'm sure it does, my guess is also an exhaust leak. Check your manifolds/headers for any carbon build up around the outside of your head. When mine leaked you could see carbon build up around the port that had backed out.

I thought detonation was more like a pinging noise...?? Like rattling metal together or something? I need to find time to play around with this exhaust before I move onto something else

How in the world do you even see up to all the manifold connections?? Mirror?

Just saying that that's what happens to me and this sounds very similar to my case.

If its engine detonation, i guess i will keep backing off the timing 2º until it stops, but i'll start off with a stethescope and maybe a new gasket depending if i take the midpipe off.. Maybe ill gut the cats while i'm in there hahha
