Question CAI and tuner question?

Hey guys,

First off, i have a 1996 GT that i bought about 6 months ago. Only things i have bought for the car is new tires (yokohama s.drives), full royal purple oil change (RP oil and RP filter), and pretty much thats it.

The car already had a MAC 80mm CAI (ill post a pic of the engine bay below) and a newly replaced (stock i believe so) intake manifold. As for exhaust, the previous owner had a non muffler, only catted stock exhaust setup. And a RAM clutch as far as i know.

So here is my question, after a little bit of research on here i realized that the 80mm CAI that i have now is useless on my car right now and most likely for ever (since i dont think i am going to go forced induction ).

For a first actual performance mod, i was thinking about getting a SCT SF3 tuner so that when i get any mods in the future, ill be getting the most of them. Figured that is the best thing to do. Or am i wrong?

So the thing is, my MAC 80mm intake makes a really loud steady hissing even at idle (see youtube vid below) unless i give it full throttle which it then quiets to more of a soft whistle. Im thinking its because it is too big for my intake throttle body or something. I will confirm this by putting the stock intake on before buying a new intake.

Will this JLT intake that is part of a tuner kit on American Muscle show more gains than with the current MAC 80mm one that i have now?
Here is the package on AmericanMuscle.com

intake specifically

Is it worth getting this new intake with the tuner, or should i just get the tuner itself?

Any suggestions/information will be greatly appreciated. Look forward to hearing from you guys to help me out

and here is my current engine bay (for intake reference)

My car just because hahaha

Also, my speedo went wacko on me about 1 month ago, it is all the way to the pin passed 150mph on the speedo by 0 LOL. What could this be? Would the tuner fix this? or would it be my speedo gear or sensor?

Thanks again guys!!!

A tuner wont help you, you have a mechanically driven speedo so the tuner cant change anything. Check to see if you have a busted gear and check the sending units.

+1 ^ i read your whole post now op. The intake i would just leave unless you can find someone to straightup trade. I wouldnt spend that much money on another one because they really dont do anything for our cars anyways. As for performance i would do a pi swap before you do anything. Im selling my ported pi heads and stage one comp cams if your interested. As for the tuner you really wont need it if your not doing anything to crazy. The speedo, as mentioned above, is mechanical in our cars so it doesn't make a difference until 1999+.

ANything else?

most CAI's hiss, even just a K+N drop in will cause some hissing. double check all your connections and make sure theres not a leak but personally i'd just live with it because it happens when you open up the intake more.

as far as the speedo. pull the guage face off and gently try moving the needle back to zero, see what it does and go from there.
