There are just certain things that I look at differently now. I would rather break my finger/nose and get powder burned from an airbag than bust my head open on the steering wheel. I would rather break my ribs from the seatbelt than fly through the windsheild, than not wear it.(which happens quite often anyways on rollovers).

I will never own a bike either. lol

I had a viewpoint quite like yours before starting this job Cliff. But from doing the calculations/reconstructing the accidents more times than not these modern government conspiracy down with conservatism and freedom of choice technologies save more lives than not.
I would rather just have glass scrapes then a broken anything, The point is the air bags cause more harm then do good in allot of cases.

much love and respect for you love and respect for the troops. and sorry to hear about your situation. as far as the bikes thats a good point i have had a few crashes one for me being stupid and two from idiot drivers and thats only in 9 years of riding bikes. we all will have different opinions just have to respect the other mans/womans opinion and not put it in the books as being silly or retarded bc we dont feel the same way someone else does. watch your 12:00, 6:00, 9:00, and 3:00 and drive like you stole it when the situation fits and it will be all good.

I would agree with you if it were true on a wide scale basis.

And also, I hope your not suggesting that being ejected(the glas scrapes) would be better than a broken bone. If you get ejected, one or more of three things is going to happen to you:

1. you will get run over by your own car(seen 2 cases of this already)
2. you will break bones anyways and likely get a lot of your skin peeled off your body
3. You will die from the impact, much like a biker without a helmet.

Ill take the broken nose!

In my experience, the most dangerous situations for airbag injuries are low impact cases(15-20mph) were the rear is impacted and the front hits something shortly after. Also when you get in a front impact accident at high speed you get the full force of the airbag explosion speed(after feeling the initial impact) causing obvious injuries.

The problem with airbags is there is only 1 speed they deploy no matter what g-force causes the sensor to trip. There is a "best case scenario" for airbag deployments, which is around 25-40mph. This is statistically the most common crash speed range as per the NHTSA research (hence why crash tests are done at those speeds). So they base the airbag deployment velocity off those numbers.

Not all, sorry I had some beers. I was referring to my scenario where I was going 50 and some old lady decides to turn as Im crossing the intersection. I would of had only a few scrapes from the glass shattering due to impact. that was not the case since the airbag deployed and effed me up, do you know how hard it is wiping your butt with your adjacent hand ? I say they do more harm then good from my experience but thats my IMO, other peoples facts mean squat to me when I had to experience it first hand.

Ah ok, I feel you man. Thats the crappy part about driving, its the other idiots that get you killed.

I just inspected a vehicle and an 18-wheeler that were involved in an accident. The Camary was headed south and the truck north. Truck decided to cross the median and run ovver(literally) the Camary. 3 ppl were basically decapitated by the truck trailer. Roof was pulled off, the whole nine yards.

When I did the Camary inspection I pulled out a baby seat covered in brain matter and blood(from the baby). Saddest experience of my life.

Dang man that is crazy, It is truly sad that so many driver errors can take so many lives (Its nutts !). I think the test requirements for a DL should be raised significantly due to the newer driver generation being so immature and lacking common sense, a 16 year old showing off in his daddies sports car is just as dangerous as a 8 year old finding his daddies loaded gun. I say if you are responsible and know the risk then drop the air bag and get you a aftermarket steering wheel. If you do not feel safe know the cautions then do not it, in the end choose what makes you feel more comfortable. My cousin is using a Momo steering wheel in WS6 and I love that thing, I think I might actually get one for my MG PIG.

Cliffy where can I find pics of your interior ?

I'm seeing more and more that 16 year olds are only a small part of the problem; they're just an easy target for the majority of drivers to pick on. Carelessness all across the board, and it knows no age.

I'm glad I grew up racing and know how to wrestle a car... it's saved my *** on many occasions.

Im not saying all 16 y/o's , more kids are getting their license at the age of 18 now a days. I stated new generation of drivers which has no age limit. But really you can have a million of hours of wheel time and do something stupid and cause a horrible mistake. I just comes down to being responsible for your actions and driving smart.... now lets discuss some darn steering wheels !!!
