This thread has gone all over the place (will confess, I have not read every post), but some thoughts on aftermarket steering wheels and air bags. Your car was OEM with an air bag, if you remove/alter/tamper with it, your insurance co. will NOT be happy with you in the event it may be discovered *read accident here* and will look for a way to deny a claim.

I am NOT an insurance guy and have MANY thoughts on such equipment in cars, but altering safey equip in your ride can get you into legal issues, reguardless if they seem sound or not.

Yup, it is illegal in fact to remove them(and not replace it with another) if not deployed IIRC.

I've also noticed a lot of bad drivers...not just women either, everyone. Granted I haven't been driving as long as some people on here but I've never had an accident and I'm not a slow driver, there is a time and place for everything.

I know exactly what Cliffy is talking about with safety equipment in cars watering down the driving abilities of their drivers... However its the same with a lot of things... Medicine, general health (vision, hearing) and now driving. In the short term aspects these devises are wonderful, don't get me wrong. However in the long term aspects we get lazy with all these assists and luxuries if you will..... Will I remove my airbag? no... will I disconnect my ABS? no... I'm grateful for them, but I wont take them for granite or drive different because I have them. I will drive as if I have no airbags, no seat belts or Subframe connectors.

...I say keep an air bag in your car...

does a 5-point harness really improve your rate of survival so much that you do not need an air bag?

Cliffy comes from the time where "if its your time, its your time" :-p

But +1 on having escape routes/etc planned at all times while driving. I know where every single car in my immediate area is/is going and ALWAYS plan accordingly. I am not about to be inconvenienced by a dumbass on the street. Thats for damn sure! lol

Good conversation indeed with good information on both sides. Getting a little heated doesn't mean its personal at all were men it happens.

I almost sold my Mustang and my supercharger because of **** like this. A 16 year old kid who was in the passenger seat of a 97 Camaro died when the driver lost control and flipped it doing around 90 they estimated. Driver walked away the passenger(Gavin Westover) died the next day. These kids went to the HS I went to 15 minutes from my house. They also wrecked right around the corner from the HS. I have sped down this very road, going the same direction many times doing 90+ MPH. This hit home hard with me, I still really really dont like thinking about it at all and it still seems really eery and odd. You almost feel responsible. **** is heartbreaking. Really puts things in perspective. Vid in the link.

I have decided to keep my car and and put the SC on because it is what I love and alot of things that are healthy to enjoy have risks that coming along with it. Thats life. Needless to say my wreckless driving habits have changed drastically. I will essentially not speed on anything less than a major highway with at least two lanes on each side. And only if theres light traffic.

Try here

try using the part number for the search instead of the name...works better sometimes for me anyway
