too late, he's already got a build thread on building a 4r70w.

as much as i love manuals, im really diggin the idea of gettin a used 4r70w, building it like ctgreddy, tossing in a good converter and a MVB with transbrake, for when the 3650 ****s the bed of corse... see how far i can push it.

ctgreddy how many miles were on your 4R70W when it blew? How often did you run it hard/launch it? Did you ever notice any weird drivability issues with yours? A couple of things I notice about mine is that when RPMS get below 1500 my transmission vibrates its really weird. Always has since I got it. You can even feel it in the peddle.

Also....if I had the skills/know-how to swap a J-MOD valve body in my 4R70W would I be capable of doing a rebuild like this?

my trans had almost 130k on it. there was a strange clunking lately but it didn't sound like it was in the trans at all. no vibrations tho.

what's the big deal about a manual valve body? i can hold it in 1st 2nd and 3rd all i want, and put it in drive and cruise when i want to since this is my dd. I will never put in a full manual valve body.

about having the capability to do this, I'm not really sure. If you go really slow, are super organized when you pull apart your trans, and if you buy a good manual/book then anyone can do it. it's just A LOT of parts, and easy to forget something or put it in the wrong spot.
