Engine shuts off in gear
I'll apologize in advance for any mis-spellings now. I'm posting this on my cell since I don't have power (snowstorm).
I went to move my 96 gt today so my cousins could play hockey in the driveway. The car wouldn't turn over. I tried using a self jumper to no sucess. Fianlly got it jumped from my aunts Explorer. I let the car run for 15 mins then went to move it. Every time I shift into reverse the engine drops. No sound, throttle response, nothing. Anyone have an idea what's going on?
Quick info on the car: 177k miles, auto, hasn't been started since June (due to my lack of funds to keep it on the road)
I want to say its just a **** battery but don't know for sure. The battery is about six months old. Car has half a tank of gas and the voltage on the battery according to the dash is at almost 12v. Again any input is greatly appreciated!

Check the battery with a real voltmeter (multi-meter) while cranking--it is probably dropping well below the 10.5 V needed to run the PCM and then keep the generator field excited when you put the car in gear.
Better yet test it with a 100A or better yet 500A load tester, if you are lucky it just needs a good charge--if not it's toast from sitting around too long discharged...

Do you have an o/r mid-pipe? sometimes when it gets cold the engine won't turn over, and sometimes even dies upon startup because of the lack of oxygen and the computer sensing that the engine needs more fuel than it can take and that can flood the engine, causing it not to startup or turnover then die.
