I need to know what type of tranny I have in my stang.. Now the real question is the dude I bought it from swapped out the engine for an 03 so I'm not sure if he swapped the tranny as well? Would he have had to? OR???

 

Chances are (FROM MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE) if it says Borg Warner it's a T45 if it says Tremec its a TR3650(?). I've seen 98,97 and 96 transmission (all T45) stamped with Borg Warner.

Edit: Also, since you're car is a 96 it would have been worlds easier for the PO to just use the T45

 

Ive seen tons of t45 stamped tremec as well. More than likley he kept the original trans which would be a t45. Anyone modular bellhousing patter transmission will work with any modular moture with the exception of trans mounted linconln setups.

Which tranny is better, the TR3650 or T45? I have an '03 GT now with TR3650 and I'm certain my '88 GT had a better tranny. It was a T5 though.

 

That is a matter of personal opinion. They both have their quirks, some swear by one and some swear by the other.

Don't know much about the T5 other than it won't work with a 4.6l.
