driveshaft

RE: driveshaft
Does anyone know what the total length of the shaft needs to be for the aluminum driveshaft using the 03-04 cobra rear end pinion as listed above. I thought I saw a number around 53.5 and this leave about 3/4 for the shaft to compress...Thanks

RE: driveshaft
FYI, I talked to bryant motorsport and they said that they won't have any shafts until about October 7th. He quoted $260 for the shaft and adapter. So I'm going to definitely go this route. I can't imagine it being more than $200 to have the shaft modified locally.

RE: driveshaft
You might want to ask around locally first. You're right that it shouldn't cost much, but finding a shop that will work on ALUMINUM driveshafts is a different story altogether.
Call around and see if any of your local guys will touch the job before you decide what to do.

the driveshaft is the same for 5speed and autos. i sold one to vegasjay a while ago and he has zero problems. even with the s/c and slicks! i'm going to list it on ebay with a buy it now auction. it's going to be a little higher since i had to pay quite a bit more for the shaft than i did previously. they are getting hard to find since i told everybody my secret. i'm using the same company for the modifications so i expect no problems with workmanship. i can't give you a price until i pick them up and see what they are going to charge me for the labor. hopefully they haven't raised their prices too much since last year. it will still be much cheaper than a powerhouse or jpc and just as good or better quality since it uses all ford factory parts i will include all the parts necessary for the swap even the factory bolts.

RE: driveshaft
I'm having HPP replace mine now. I'm not sure what he is going to use. I told him to fix it the way he would fix it if it were his car!
I got a feeling I'll have a new one piece unit in there when it is over!

Good pictures Spyder!!
Now I can see how many bolts are in that crazy connection!
On the 2 piece OEM unit, if you don't get the front unit phased properly with the back unit, it is vibration city. That means you got a 1 in 8 shot of getting it right if you don't mark it when you take it apart (which is what the people who installed my first set of gears did!)

RE: driveshaft
mike yeah i know what you mean. the cobra flange is just like the normal 4 bolt flanges on fox bodys and trucks. i'm not sure why they drilled two sets of holes and both have the same spacing but it works great and it's 2-3 lbs. lighter than the stock one. that combined with the driveshaft=about 30lbs. lost.
