Default Violent screetch coming from pulleys. Help!

The middle of last week I heard a small sweak coming from the engine compartment and determined that it was coming from the accessory pulleys. I waited until the weekend to have a thorough look at it and in a couple of days it got a lot worse. I checked all the pulleys to see if they were loose or wobbly and they weren't. Just using my bear ear narrowed it down the pulleys in the center (crank, water pump and maybe the alternator). I sprayed some AeroKroil (high quality penetrant/lubricant) on each of the centers and shafts (as close as I could aim) of the pulleys both when the car was off and when it was running. The problem has not gone away. It sounds like when car used to have the belt slip on acceleration accept it does it all the time. The sound changes with RPM and amount of torque applied but, its always there and very high pitched, violent and annoying.

Any help would be appreciated.

2 years ago I put in the Steeda Pulley kit but, have not had a problem since.

I've yet to put a wrench to anything on the belt line in this car but it sounds like the belt tension has loosened up. I'm sure there's a way to tighten it and, if that's it, it's a pretty quick fix. If you're not up to the task, you should drop by any decent shop.

If the stock idler pulley is still installed, then it may be the cause.

If the tension is good, it's possible that the rubber in the crank pulley has deteriorated allowing the outer metal band to spin which causes a squeak (if the crank pulleys are of this design). Happened on my Saab - squeaked at startup and during acceleration.

If it's constant then it sounds like you've lost a bearing in one of the pulleys. Easiest place to look first would be the idler and alternator. If it's that bad then it should be obvious.

Good luck

Try taking the belt off and spinning the pullys by hand to see if you can hear.
