Default 3:73's

My car has a 2.3 with a 5 speed but origanaly had the a4ld so it came with 3:73 gears stock, so am a right in assuming that will help accelaration by having lower and more gears like on the bigger motors or am I missing something here? Also I livein a hilly area so this should help me keep it in 5th going up hill without slowing down right?

Trust me, your car will need to be down shifted when going up hills (no other way around it unless TURBO!) but you can always try

"lower" gears mean you have more acceleration, but less top speed

I figure if I hit the hill going fast enough (85mph) I can pull it without downshifting and by the top I could be going the speed limit (55mph)

I'd hit a hill at 120km/h (about 72 mph) and be 105km/h at the top (62mph) so you should be good

Look on your door tag. If it's a 6 then it's 3.73s and if it's a W then you have a rare 3.73 with a locker.

I looked on the door and I just have the run of the mill 3:73's that came with the auto's, a trac-lock rear end would be cool though

Even with a turbo, I downshift going up hill. No need to bog the engine down.
