Default New Mustang Owner with Question

Just a bought a 87 GT 5.0, with ram air, trickflow intake, cam, rods, centforce, ect.
The gears seem really low, I cant even use 5th gear unless I'm out on the interstate. I'm assuming this is not typical or desireable.

Is the aftermarket cam what is causeing this?
Is the stock for an 87 GT rearend 8.8 inch?
What is the stock 87 Gt rearend gear ratio?
Should I get a bigger gear?
And what, 3.73, 4.10?

I need some suggestions I just got my mustang last tuesday, and I'm eager to get it set up the way I want it? Thanks for you help!

the gears were high, like 2:73!!! 8.8 rearend. thats your problem. 3:73 or 4:10 will be great. no higher gear then that though if youre in it for performance.

Still should be able to use 5th......I use to shift into 5th around 45-50mph with the 2.73 gears. What size cam do you have installed?

I was told something like TA273 or something. I dont have much knowledge when it comes to cams. But 5th gear is usless under 2K rpms. And the motor in this car is unreal its scary how fast this thing is from 10mph to 100+. Its gotta be like 360hp.

I'm assuming it's a manual since you said Centerforce. Go w/ 3.55's if you do hwy driving, but if it's more city than 3.73's or 4.10's. You'll be grinning from ear to ear.

Oh, and you won't have to worry about 5th anymore...you'll be there before you know it!!!

probably 2.73's....bogs like a ***** too huh ?

i like 4.10's best , w/ 4.10's and cheater slicks only...i got mid 13's out of my old notch.

the door tag will have "ax" code...for what you have now. m=2.73 , z=3.08
