Default Where to start

I picked up an 84 5.0 today, and was wondering where I should start with a rebuild. I Carfaxed it and it said that it has had only one owner, and that the last mileage check was at 29,xxx. The mileage is at 50,xxx now, but I doubt those are original miles. I'm new to mustangs, so do you think I could build off of the current motor, and if so, what should I start doing. If not, what are the steps I should take to begin rebuilding.

well you should start by compression testing it to see how well it is, then go from there, no sense in messing with a motor with bad rings or messed up heads
