guages wont light up
ok i got my dash and everything off. i was lookin for some burned out bulbs, but they're all good. so now the question is why dont my white face guages light up? i noticed thereswires to each of the guage faces, are the faces like a circuit board themselves?

RE: guages wont light up
they were in the car when i bought it. they are overlays, but they have wires connected to them so i think they light up. i just noticed a few weeks ago i turned my lights on and they were real dark. i thought a lightbulb burned out.

yeah i checked my fuses last weekend when my brake lights went out. the connector to the brake switch was melted. i havnt check the dimmer switch on this but i did find a switch to change the guages from blue to green tint. it shocked me. im gonna look at the dimmer switch now.

well... I can speak from experience on this one.... a few tips..
1) If it is overlays, and they are not lined up correctly, it cover up some, and in extreme cases, nearly all of the lighting behind it. Mine covers not all but a little bit of it, but I have seen on other fox bodies where it is completely covered.
2) The fuse for the lights could be blown. You can replace this fuse to ttest that theory.
If still not working after swapping the fuse, get a test light with a probe needle, and stick that intowhere the fuse plugs in, and make sure you dimmer switch is turned on to full...
3) If still nothing, move the dimmer switch back and forth alot... On my car right now, the dimmer switch itself is not bad, but the connection to it is very loose and sometimes it flickers, and other times it stays on/off... On mine, I found the sweet spot close to all the way up, and just left it there.
4) If still nothing, but you know it is getting power at the fuse box, then follow the wires up to the cluster, unplug it from there, and use the same test light procedure at this connection... that will tell you if a wire is bad on the way from the fuse box to the cluster.

i figured it out. got all my dash torn out and pulled the instrument panel apart. the guages have a wiring harness connected to it. i traced the wires to a little black box. no idea what it is. theres 3 wires going into it. 2 from the guages and a third. so i followed the 3rd to a dimmer switch of sorts. its got a switch that changes the lighting from blue to green, and then a dimmer switch. pretty trick and extremely retarded. none the less, i got it. and ended up having to superglue my dash back on since some ******* broke the top tabs up by the windshield off.
