Default What usually breaks first?

If you only burn out occasionally, like say two or three times a week on friday night drags, what usually breaks first on an 1988 GT? By burn out i mean a good 5-10 sec heater. I have the manual trans.

You'll be fine. Don't worry about it.

do your burnout in 2nd gear and you won't need to worry about breaking anything except the motor if you rev it way too high for way too long.

You mean rev up and let it go in first, and then shift to second?

shifting during a burn out is the best way to break something, start the burnout in 2nd.

So just rev up and let it loose in second? Is second gear alow enough gear to do that?

I have a C4 (AUTO 3 speed) and what i do is start in first gear and let her get to smoking then let off the brakes and shift to second.

I dont like the sounds of that starting out in second. If you are good with your manual you should be able to flawlessly shift into second and never miss a beat on the burnout.

Ive never seen anyone start in second that seems like the easiest and most sure way of doing damage.

if your talk a burn out on bleach or some other lubracant 2nd is plenty low in any car built for the strip, ofcourse not if you run 15 inch slicks.

DEFINATELY!

If on water then second should be ok.But on dry pavement i would still start in first.

Yeah that sounds pretty risky on dry pavement, I know how to shift smoothly into second from first.
