changing fuel pump today, got some q's
in the instructions it says you need to relieve fuel pressure via the schrader valve w/ a special tool, Is it necessary, if so, is there another way to do it?
Is there a fuel filter in the tank?
Are there any tips and/or tricks you guys have?

If you let your car sit, your fuel wont have much pressure and you can use a screw driver to relieve the pressue...just cover it with a rag...it will be like letting air out of your tires. The filter isn't in the tank, it is down the line, but there is a pick up screen in the tank.
Only tip I have is to drain the tank of most the gas and don't forget to remove the fill spout.

just unplug the inertia in the trunk and crank it over, let it run til it dies...there will about 5 psi left in it.
there is a little bag filter on the end of the pump...careful pulling it out, you can knock it off and will have to fish it out.
try to use a brass punch or chisel to loosen up the locking ring,(or wood dowel or plastic anything) it could cause an explosion if you use steel but most likely won't , i always use steel but i'm bulletproof.....lol
only trick really is make it as empty as you can....you can run a 2 x 4 under the tank and lower it w/ a jack if it's heavy, do it in the grass if you can, your gonna get gas on you....for sure.

Both above methods are great for relieving residual fuel pressure. The fuel fitler is below the frame rail like right below the seat.
The way I do it at work is when everything is back together, cycle through the ignition...on, 5 seconds, off, on, 5 seconds, off....etc. Do this no less than 5 times.
What this does is turn power on to the fuel pump and get the fuel going to the engine. It's kinda like priming it so that when you actually try and start it, it starts instead of turning over and over and over before sputterring and starting.
Good luck to you,
Ivan

you really want that tank to be as empty as possible. it'll make things much easier. last time i did it i thought it was empty, kinda sucked when it fell on me. just scary for a second really, its not as heavy as you'd think. also, if its not too late buy a filler pipe grommet because yours is likely ripped.
