You can use them on your '89. I wouldn't spend my money on gear drives. Summit has a nice, adjustable, double roller timing chain and gear setadjustable set for like 38 bucks, that's what I'm using in mine.

Had a Pete Jackson gear drive on my 88 t-top. Had no probs whatsoever at all. Everyone and there brothers would stop me to ask what kinda of s/c I had. Wasn't a screeching sound. That sounds like a install issue.

yeah i run gear drives in all my other cars (chevy small block and big block motors) the only thing that stopped me with my mustang is the machine work some require and i hear they dont work with the newer efi motors.

Gawd F that crap. I say get a double roller man that crap is annoying. Why would you want that? Its obnoxious and doesn't even do anything for you.
