RE: what a dumb ***
Which poles are you jumping on the solenoid? If it's the small pole (signal pole) to the large pole thats connected to the battery +, then the solenoid and starter are good. If it's the 2 large poles the solenoid could be bad. You may be right, that you could have blown the fusible link that is on the wire from the + pole on the solenoid to the ignition switch. If that's the case, you shouldn't have any power to the switch, so nothing that normally comes on with the switch on should work. Hopefully you didn't also fry the PCM, but you may have done just that. Won't really be able to tell until you get the switch problem corrected. What year is your pony?

If you jumped the large poles and started the car, that's great news. Means your PCM is OK. Try jumping from the large pole connected to the battery + to the small pole. If that works, your solenoid is OK, if not, you'll need a new solenoid. Also, if you have a test light or a volt meter, you can remove the signal wire from the small pole on the solenoid and have a friend try to start the car with the key. Check for voltage on the signal wire, it should have 12 volts when the key is in the start position.
