check with your local Goodyear tire store, they can probably tell you what the stock tires were.

my 88 had P225/60-15 ZR rated Goodyear Unidirectional Gatorbacks on it new and I think I ran the pressures at 30 psi, but it's been quite a few years since I had stock tires on it.

my car has P215/65R15

the goodyear website sayws stock size for 87 is P225/60VR15

how much vaiability can i do on track width on that stock rim? if the previous owner put 215's on it, can I put 230/235's on
the rears?

and if i go with lower profile tires, they have to be the same profle all around right?
otherwise my car will be lower in the front than in the back

I think the 235 will probably fit on the rears, not sure about the front though. best advice I can give you is go to the local high performance tire store and talk to them about what you want to do and what will fit/not fit on your Stang. they have much more knowledge about this than I do and can keep you from making a mistake that may cost you big bucks if you buy something that don't fit right. you don't necessarily have to run the same profile front and rear, just keep the same profile on the both tires at either end of the car. lots of folks run lower profile tires on the rear than on the front, it all depends on the looks you want and tire clearances in the fenderwells.
