Normal Operating Temp
I'm running a 160F thermostat, but am just putting in regular coolant, with the A/C on is goes up to about 180-190 then back down to about 170F on and off.....without the A/C it's about 170-180 degrees.

Ragnarok, if you're running low gears, your revs shouldn't be high.

I have very low gearing (3:08) and I cruise about 70-75 at just under 2k rpms. With taller gearing (3:73) I would cruise about 65-70 at around the 2600 rpms.

What gears do you have in your car? Is it stick? What type of tranny?

when using anti-freeze always put some water with it so the anti-freeze can expand so many people come to the shop with over heating and that's it they put all anti-freeze in it..that puple ice is good too
maybe you ot to run one fan with the other on a thermostat say 190..that 160 is to cold as it will go into closed loop 180-185 hp 'stat will work nice

Sorry , what I meant about the gears is that they are a high ratio , It has tons of low end power but revs really high at around 60 mph and up .Whatever the stock 7.5 rear end was in 1991 ,i think 3.73 or something is whatI have. I guess I was thinking backwards or something .Anyways sorry , I have a C4 tranny so that doesn't help much either. I'm putting the 8.8 in soon and I don't know what gears they had. Its from an 88 cougar. What gears would you guys recommend for my application. I like low end power but for the next couple of years I'll be doing alot of highway travel to my g-friends college. About a 115 mile trip 2 times a month.

What type of thermostat should i run? I was going to go get a 180 tomorrow but should i reconsider? By the way my fans are set up on a switch so i can turn them on manually .I run them most of the time .
